A's and Angels

When Aaron got home from Belize, I surprised him with tickets to an A's vs. Angels game.  We finally got to go this past Monday night.  Aaron is a total Angels fan and was happy to find us sitting amongst other Angels fans.  He cheered a little more freely than he was originally planning on.  I tried (feebly) to cheer for the A's (I grew up a Giants fan but felt the need to represent the bay against Aaron's southern pride).  Aaron was happy that the Angels won and I was happy that we got to eat coliseum dogs.  It was a good night, finished off with In 'N Out milkshakes and a scriptural thought to make it a full on FHE!  Good summer nights.

Concert in the Park

Redwood City knows how to live up the summer nights.  They have an event planned almost every night of the week.  It creates such a fun community atmosphere.

We went to the Wednesday night Concert in the Park, which is held at the park just two blocks away from us.  While we went for the music and the community fun, my main motivation actually was to play around taking pictures with a slr camera.  Our friend Richard went out of town and left his Canon Rebel for me to play with.  I gained a newfound appreciation for shooting in the manual mode.  How does anyone ever master that? The pictures I took weren't perfect but it was fun to play and Aaron was a good sport to smile for the camera.  He really dislikes posing.

Oh and the music was fun.  A mixture of different era's.  If I kept living in Redwood City I would corral a big group of friends, pack a picnic basket, bring playing cards and plop down on a nice blanket to listen to the weekly music.

Visit to San Fran.

I never really called it San Fran growing up, but when my cousin Candice came to live with us years ago, she would always refer to the city as San Fran.  So, if I ever want to sound cool about going to the city I call it "San Fran."

Anyways, Blair, Chelsea and Addy were house-sitting for family friends in San Fran so my mom and I went in to visit.  While there we went shopping and ate lunch at Pasta Pomodoro.  Aaron joined us that night and we watched the Olympics while eating pizza and cookies.

Oh and I took pictures around the house and neighborhood..  The house is really unique and seems very San Francisco-y to me (which is not necessarily the Full House San Francisco-y style). Plus, they have some pretty cool antique things in the house.  It kinda feels like a intricate museum where after being there for a bit you are still discovering cool new things.

Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. And Los Gatos.

We decided that you can't spend a summer in the South Bay Area without taking a trip to Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk.  We happened to pick one of the best weather days, which meant everyone else had the same idea as us.  The traffic there was quite horrendous and the beach was packed and the water was frigid, BUT we had a great time soaking up the sun, playing phase 10 on our towels (our new addiction), throwing the frisbee (I am so horrible, a couple people almost lost their heads), and walking around the boardwalk.  We even threw caution to the wind and bought a funnel cake!  I think it's only safe to do that once every ten years (especially when you opt for the whipped cream and strawberry toppings).

After dusting off the sand, we drove over to the quaint Los Gatos area and meandered through the pretty homes there.  We found the best Italian place ever for dinner, too!  We probably stuck out in our beach clothes amongst all the swanky people drinking wine but we loved it.  They even brought us our check in an Italian-English book.  We added our little thank-you inside the book.

The day was a success and a great break from what has become the typical work/eat/sleep schedule during the week.
