Aaron took me out for ice cream after I finished my last day with my students. I still had to go to school the next day for a teacher breakfast and to pack up my room (after which Aaron took me out again for a slice of cake at The Chocolate. I think he was just as excited as I was that I was finishing!) but I was feeling free already that night and it felt appropriate to celebrate.
I have since cleared out my whole classroom and office, turned in my keys and drove away from Timpview for the last time.
People have asked me how I feel about my first year of teaching, and I don't have a great answer yet. What I can say is that I will be grateful for the learning experience and that I am really excited to be enjoying summer break. Hopefully soon I can do a better re-cap on my feelings. I am sure time will bring nostalgia.
For now I am free!
I have slept in until 8 am (long past the start-of-school bell that rang at 7:30 am), gone grocery shopping during the day during the week, worked out every morning, cooked regular meals and folded our laundry. All simple joys that were not so easy to accomplish during the school year.
I'm happy for the break but I am getting antsy. I need to find another focus, another job. But more on that later. For now I am free!
