Two little stories.

I know I sounded way stressed in my explanation of starting the school year, but have no fear. I am surviving!  There is a lot of work to be done but it is all worth it when I am in the classroom with my students.   Here are a couple of my favorite things that have happened:

First

One of my sophomore students exclaimed in utter shock during class,

"Wait...YOU know what Instagram and Facebook are?"

His faced looked as though he was really saying,

"But you are OLD.  How can you possibly know about these things?"

Ha.

I guess I have succeeded in getting them to see me as the teacher, and not a could-be high schooler. I don't know if I'm quite ready to be looked at that way though.

Second
(and a little more meaningful)

I have a student who arrived from Brazil just one week before school started. She came up to me after class today with a huge smile on her face and said,

"Today was perfect!  I understood everything!  Thank you for helping me understand."

She has been looking so confused during class as she struggles with the major language barrier.

I have been trying to think of ways that I can help her succeed in my class.

When she thanked me for how I taught her, my heart melted.  What a sweet experience.

What great kiddos I have.
